WASTEWATER SERVICE
The Quonset Wastewater Collection System and Treatment Facility that services the Quonset Business ParkŪ is owned and operated by the Quonset Development Corporation. The system is comprised of 20 miles of gravity sewer lines and force mains, two existing pumping stations, one new pumping station currently under construction, and a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment facility.
The wastewater collection system is comprised of sewer laterals and trunk lines ranging in pipe size from 8" to 24" and is completely separated from the stormwater collection system within the Quonset Business Park.
The current capacity of the WWTF is 1.78 million gallons per day, with plans for future incremental expansions of 2.6 MGD and 3.9 MGD. On average, the system currently processes 0.55 MGD of wastewater.
In accordance with State and Federal laws, the WWTF also operates an Industrial Pretreatment Program. The objectives of the program are to prevent the introduction of pollutants that could interfere with the facility's operation, prevent pass-through of untreated pollutants that could violate water quality standards, and prevent contamination of and limit use and disposal of wastewater sludge.
Use of the wastewater service requires the filing of an Industrial Questionnaire. An industry identified as a "Significant Industrial User" as defined under Section 3.29 of the Sewer Regulations must submit a Pretreatment Permit Application.
WATER SUPPLY
The Quonset Davisville water system serves the Quonset Business ParkŪ in its entirety and is owned and operated by the Quonset Development Corporation. The Park's water system is separate from the Town of North Kingstown's water system.
The water system is comprised of three gravel-packed groundwater wells, 65 miles of water mains, two spheroid water storage tanks, and emergency interconnects with two other major water suppliers.
The three wells have a total pumping capacity of 4.6 million gallons per day. The two storage tanks have a capacity of one million gallons. On average, the system pumps 0.6 MGD.
The source water aquifer is pure enough that disinfection is not required. However, as a precaution, the water is disinfected with sodium hypochlorite and buffered with potassium hydroxide for pH adjustment to improve water quality.
